LAV Siembra is a sustainability program for Tejidos LAV, a Colombian flooring distributor, created with both the local context and the company's available infrastructure in mind. Since Colombia does not yet have the proper infrastructure to recycle carpets, and from an environmental perspective, reusing is more efficient than recycling, we developed this program. By leveraging the company's existing resources, the local context presents a unique market opportunity for its implementation. Considering that the biggest challenge in implementing take-back programs is audience engagement, this proposal represents a low-cost opportunity to test the new service, evaluate public engagement, and assess its scalability. This approach also helps determine whether investing in infrastructure to collect and recycle materials in Colombia is a viable long-term strategy.
Why planters?
One of the main products that LAV Siembra will create from repurposed carpets and rugs is planters, as the program aims to plant, regenerate, and create life by preventing waste. It also seeks to offer clients a product they can gift to stakeholders, raising awareness of the importance and endless possibilities of reusing materials. Additionally, the characteristics of the repurposed materials make this product easy to build without requiring much effort or investment. The sturdiness of the carpet helps form the structure, while the attractive designs are ideal for decorating the planter.
Personalization would be available for clients, such as companies, that wish to give their planters as gifts to employees or customers. The planters can include the company's labels.
Additionally, each planter would come with information about the LAV Siembra program and marketing materials. Therefore, they would also serve as marketing tools for the program.
